Participation in the International Hospital Federation Congress in Portugal
The Warith International Institute participated in the 46th International Hospital Federation (IHF) Congress, representing the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine and hospitals in Iraq, held in Lisbon, Portugal. During the Congress, the Institute presented its successful experience in developing radiation therapy services using advanced techniques for cancer patients in Iraq. The Warith Institute's participation included presenting a scientific poster highlighting the Institute’s health programs and ongoing efforts to provide exceptional healthcare. The Institute also noted its involvement in strategic programs such as medical evacuation in collaboration with the Iraqi Ministry of Health, which has helped reduce the need for seeking treatment outside Iraq and in neighboring countries.
Dr. Haidar Al-Abedi, Head of the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, stated, "The participation of the Warith International Cancer Institute (WICI) was not only a representation of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine and its investment in the healthcare sector but also a representation of Iraq, as it was the only institution from Iraq to participate in this prominent Congress."
The International Hospital Congress is a unique global forum that brings together members of the International Hospital Federation, hospital leaders, healthcare services, and health institutions. This conference provides a valuable opportunity for networking among healthcare leaders, with selected sessions in each edition focusing on prominent trends and common issues in the sector. The congress serves as a hub for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation, offering a valuable chance for the international community to come together, allowing healthcare leaders to share experiences and benefit from each other's insights to improve the quality of services in their respective countries.
The International Hospital Congress organized by the International Hospital Federation (IHF) dates to 1929, when it was first held in Atlantic City, USA, as a biennial event. Since 2015, it has been held annually at various locations around the world.
Member organizations of the International Healthcare Federation are given multiple opportunities to showcase their achievements during the conference. The diverse range of participants reflects the Federation's membership, which spans over 60 countries.
The congress provided an opportunity to engage with global healthcare leaders and explore how to apply positive global health experiences locally in our hospitals in Iraq.
