Laboratory services

The Laboratory Department at Warith International Cancer Institute (WICI) is an integral part of Warith International Cancer Institute (WICI). The department is subject to the general rules and regulations governing it. The department is dedicated mainly to providing diagnostic services to the patients of Warith Institute (WICI) and those who are received from other different institutions.
The department contains eight sections: blood bank, clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology/parasitology, immunology, pathology, molecular diagnostics, and cytogenetics. As part of Warith International Cancer Institute (WICI), the laboratory department operates 24/7 to provide a continuous diagnostic service.
To achieve the mission of Warith International Cancer Institute (WICI) of providing high-quality healthcare services, the department is moving towards different accreditation programs such as ISO15189, JCI, and others by complying with the guidelines and policies that are mandatory to follow.
Warith International Laboratories has obtained the ISO 15189 accreditation certificate, to be the only one in Iraq that holds this certificate for a wide range of tests. The accredited tests include the fields of clinical chemistry, hormones, bacteria, hematology, and immunological tests.

Sections:

1. Blood Bank: This section provides a broad range of blood product compatibility testing and transfusion along with other blood components such as FFP cryo, etc.
2. Clinical Chemistry: This section offers a wide range of laboratory tests, including lipid profile, cardiac risk markers, liver function tests, endocrine tests, tumor markers, and therapeutic drug monitoring.
3. Hematology: Services include automated and manual blood counts, coagulation studies, flow cytometry, identification of thalassemia and sickle cell carriers, red blood cell disorders, analyses of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and other body fluid analyses.
4. Microbiology/Parasitology: This section provides a wide spectrum of tests for the detection and identification of bacteria causing human pathogenic infections related to different body sites and organs. It also performs a variety of drug sensitivity testing to help in antimicrobial treatment. This section also covers services related to fungal infections and microscopic examination, including Parasitology and others.
5. Serology: This section offers a wide variety of tests that assist in identifying viral and other infectious and non-infectious diseases by detecting antigen and antibody reactions.
6. Pathology: This section includes routine histological services such as H&E staining, tumor markers (IHC), cytopathology, and slide review reports.
7. Molecular Diagnostics: This section provides services that include molecular genetics investigations covering both solid and hematological malignancies using a variety of techniques ranging from PCR, Real-time PCR, sanger sequencing, and NGS. This section also offers HLA typing and testing for genetic testing for other diseases (such as. Mediterranean Fever) and molecular microbiological analysis (e.g., COVID-19, HBV, HCV, CMV, BKV, etc.).
8. Cytogenetics: In this section, Karyotype analysis is performed on a wide range of samples, including blood, bone marrow, and tissues, for constitutional and acquired chromosome abnormalities.
